From Writer Director Phil Allocco comes the Luke Evans starring crime thriller 5lbs of Pressure, now on Prime Video .

5lbs of Pressure. My type of movie!  From Writer Director Phil Allocco comes this tale of families, emotions (grief, anger, desperation and much  more), revenge, and the battle to survive a tough life. After serving a thirteen year prison sentence Adam (played by Luke Evens) is trying to put his life back together, hes also trying to reconnect with his ex and also trying to get to know his sixteen year old son Jimmy (played by Rudy Pankow)

We also see a parallel plot featuring Mike ( played by Rory Culkin) and Leff (played by Alex Pettyfer) who most definitely make their living in dubious ways, whether its drug dealing or weapons deals, these two are definitely not living a relaxed life and Mike really wants to break away and become his own man, rather than living under the shadow of Leff who has taken care of him for many years.

When these two stories start to cross, this is where the pressure is upped and we know that many characters in this ensemble film are destined to collide and collide they will!  I really enjoyed this film. Its perfectly cast and Luke Evans does give in my opinion a career best as the ex-prisoner trying to rebuild his collapsed life, Rory Culkin is also on top form and even in the scenes with no dialogue, Rory’s body language is a fantastic display of a man who is mentally torn apart in side and is screaming to be his own person.  5lbs of Pressure is also beautifully filmed by cinematographer Sara Deane (Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose, Whitstable Pearl)  and with very subtle and there when you need it music score by Philippe Jakko (Allies, Kaufman’s Game), this all helps 5lbs of Pressure stand out so much more.

If you like films such as The Town, Boondock Saints, and television shows such as the Jason Isaac’s show Brotherood, then do check out 5lbs of Pressure.  Its not a franchise, its not a remake, its not an IP and so for those moaning about ‘all films are remakes nowadays’ then treat yourself twice to 5lbs of Pressure. 1: its an original film, and 2: Its a damn fine movie!
