While working as a Coney Island entertainer, Harry Houdini (played by Tony Curtis) meets and falls madly in love with Bess (played by Janet Leigh). The two quickly marry, and with her at his side, the magician begins his rise to fame as the world’s greatest escape artist and magician.
But as the escapes get more and more dangerous, Bess worries that Harry may be taking his act too far.
This biographical look at the life of Houdini takes several liberties with the facts, including how the magician died (spoiler- he didnt really die on stage) but its still a cracker of a film. Based on the book by Harold Kellock, the screenplay is written by Philip Yordan (Brigham, Cry Wilderness) and is directed by George Marshall who also directed Duel In the Jungle, and The Blue Dahlia
Special features on the disc arent too minimal but you do get a photo gallery and what promises to be a great HD transfer.
its also worth noting that Houdini would be he first of 5 onscreen pairings for Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, they would go onto appear in Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis appeared together in The Black Shield of Falworth (1954), The Vikings (1958), The Perfect Furlough (1958), and Who Was That Lady? (1960).
