From BAFTA winner Michael Winterbottom (Greed, The Look of Love) and boasting a powerhouse performance from Oscar winner Kenneth Branagh (Belfast, Death on the Nile), This England is based on Boris Johnson’s tumultuous first months as Prime Minister.

This compelling series traces the impact of the first wave of the Coronavirus pandemic. The drama takes us inside the halls of power, as Boris Johnson (Branagh) grapples with COVID-19, Brexit, and a controversial personal and political life. Interwoven are stories from around the country: scientists racing to understand the virus; the doctors, nurses and care-home workers on the frontline; and ordinary people whose lives were thrown into turmoil. I havent seen the show yet so I dont know if there are scenes of parties in Downing Street or scenes where Boris plans the lies he will tell the country whilst people are dying, but I am a fan of Kenneth Branagh and his work, and will check this series out even though the name of ‘Boris’ isnt something I want to see or hear on my screen anytime soon. 

Co-starring Ophelia Lovibond (Minx) and Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), This England is a riveting, timely series not to be missed.
