Marley Morrison’s award-winning debut feature Sweetheart will be released in UK & Irish cinemas 24th September. The sharply observed coming-of-age comedy stars Jo Hartley (This is England, David Brent: Life on the Road & Eddie the Eagle) and newcomers Nell Barlow & Ella-Rae Smith. The film delighted critics and audiences at BFI Flare LGBTQ+ Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the Glasgow Film Festival & Best First Feature at Inside Out Toronto.
Socially awkward AJ (Nell Barlow) is on holiday with her overbearing family in a caravan park in Dorset. She dresses for concealment and is determined not to have fun, until she meets and unexpectedly falls for the free-spirited lifeguard Isla (Ella Rae Smith), who might just be the girl of her dreams.
The film was commissioned through the Film London’s Microwave scheme backed by the BFI (using funds from the National Lottery) and BBC Films and produced by Hazey Jane Films.
