Casting change for Our Girl Season 2

This year I caught up with one of my favourite TV dramas of recent years. The BBC series ‘Our Girl’ which began in 2013 with a feature length episode and then returned in 2014 for a limited run series that  follows Molly (played by Lacey Turner) on her first deployment as a serving army medic against the backdrop of the British Army’s withdrawal from Afghanistan. A fantastic drama made all the better by the brilliantly written and acted characters.

Whilst the series did tie up in a nice way, it did leave it open for a series 2 which until now I wasn’t sure would happen.

But it is happening but with a change. Lacey Turner isn’t returning but the show will instead feature former Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan who has landed the starring role.

Filming of the second series of Our Girl starts in January 2016, and the episodes are due to hit screens in late 2016.

WARNING: Embargoed for publication until: 16/09/2014 - Programme Name: Our Girl Series 1 - TX: n/a - Episode: n/a (No. 1) - Picture Shows: Mansfield Mike (NICK PRESTON), Smurf (IWAN RHEON) - (C) BBC - Photographer: David Bloomer

Im not sure how I feel about this news. Lacey Turner was fantastic in the show and over the few episodes, we became attached to her and care about what happens to her. But cast changes arent a new thing. I felt the same way when Being Human changed cast members but that show carried on working just as well as its earlier years.

National Television Awards - Red Carpet Arrivals
