I write about many films. I chat about many films, and I watch so many films. Most of the time I read about films, watch them and recommend them to others.
Now and again someone recommends a title to me. Its this case that I am writing about here.
One of the very early interview/conversations I had on the FromPage2Screen Podcast was with an actor called Nabil Elouahabi. I had seen Nabil on screen so many times before we spoke, and thankfully Nabil gave me an hour to chat and one of my best podcast shows was born. I have kept in touch with Nabil and it was because of this, I heard about the following film.
Majid.
Written & Directed by Nassim Abassi
Majid Internet Movie Database Page
A coming of age story of a ten year old Moroccan orphan called Majid. Following recurrent nightmares, he discovers that he can’t remember his parents’ faces anymore and that there are no photographs of them apart from the charred remains of a family photo with his parents heads burnt away. With the help of his new friend Larbi, Majid decides to go on a quest to find a photograph of his dead parents. It’s a journey that will take them to the big city of Casablanca where danger and adventure awaits them.
After the sell-out success of ‘MAJID’ at The London MENA Film Festival 2012, the film is returning in January 2013 for a charity screening in association with The British Moroccan Society.
All proceeds raised will go through the registered charity www.britishmoroccansociety.org and be split between two worthwhile projects in Morocco.
Tickets for Majid can be purchased via the donate option on the British Moroccan Society website which can be found at http://britishmoroccansociety.org/ (under ‘special receipt instructions’ please insert MAJID). £15 (£10 concessions).
An e-ticket will be sent to you – please print this off and bring with you to the screening.
All those who book online will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win 2 nights for 2 at the beautiful Delano Hotel in Marrakech
