High-octane adventure movie LAST ACTION HERO, starring one of the Kings of the 80s and 90s action film Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator franchise, The Expendables), is available for the first time on 4K Ultra HD on May 17 courtesy of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

The super budget high profile film also stars Anthony Quinn (Zorba The Greek), Charles Dance (Gosford Park, TV’s “Game of Thrones”), F. Murray Abraham (The Grand Budapest Hotel, Amadeus) and Tom Noonan (TV’s “The Leftovers”), the LAST ACTION HERO follows young Danny Madigan (Austin O’Brien), a lonely 11-year-old boy who escapes from his bleak reality by watching the action adventure movies of his favorite film character, Jack Slater (Arnold Schwarzenegger). When his best friend, Nick the projectionist, gives him a special ticket to the new Slater film, Danny is magically transported into Jack’s world, where the good guys always win. Danny becomes his helper as Jack battles a trio of nefarious bad guys, Benedict (Charles Dance), Vivaldi (Anthony Quinn) and The Ripper (Tom Noonan). But things get out of hand when Benedict steals Danny’s magic ticket stub and transports himself into the real world, where crime can, and often does, pay. Jack and Danny must leave fictional Los Angeles for real-life New York and battle the villains without the aid of movie magic or stuntmen.

Whilst the film didnt light up up with box office on its Summer ’93 release, never judge a fun ride by the money it made. Last Action Hero is a wonderfully fun film that mixes its genres wonderfully and was more a failure of poor marketing rather than anything that let the world down on the screen. Coming out in the same month as Jurassic Park was never going to be an easy fight and sadly its a fight that Last Action Hero lost, but that doesnt mean that Last Action Hero is a bad film, it just means when it came to dinosaurs or an action film that we felt we may have seen before. Well the world opted for the dinosaurs. But if you havent seen Last Action Hero or havent seen it for a while, then this is the perfect time to pick up this reissue ,sit back and head back to the 90s with one of its biggest releases. I watched the film perhaps just over a year ago, and it still holds up.
