What made the creators of some of the classic horror films dream up the nightmares that kept us up at night? Were these people as strange and twisted as their creations? And what about today’s creators of horror? Who are the minds behind the macabre of the present day? The Horror Crowd is a wonderful revealing documentary from actor insider Ruben Pla spotlighting the Hollywood horror community and through the feature running time it covers such wide-ranging topics as Being The Weird Kid, were they strange from the offset? , Sparking The Imagination, Women In Horror, Race Relations, Helping Each Other, Film Festivals, and The Dark Side.
Whilst there are a ton of horror documentaries out there (but still not enough in my opinion) most of them focus on the films, and not on the minds of the talent behind them . Through a series of interview snippets we get an insight into how these film making talents work and gain a large pile of inspiration from the information we gather. Whether you are a filmmaker, a wannabe filmmaker or just hold an interest for those who make movies. The Horror Crowd is a great watch.
Of course with this type of film/documentary there is no need for any indepth review, plot details, or comments about the score, cinematography. The Horror Crowd speaks for itself, and definitely gets my thumbs up!
Featuring a great cast including Lin Shaye, Greg Grunberg, Russell Mulcahy, Oren Peli, Adam Robitel, Darren Lynn Bousman, Lombardo Boyar, Ernest Dickerson, Clare Kramer, Charles de Lauzirika, Craig Perry, Mike Mendez, Jeffrey Reddick, Ryan Turek, Brea Grant, , Eric England, Shaked Berenson, Chelsea Stardust, and many more..
I also had the pleasure of talking with the films creator. Ruben Pla in advance of this years Virtual Grimmest, here is that chat.
